Spreeta is a low-cost SPR based bio-sensing platform enabling real–time, quantitative concentration, affinity and kinetic analysis of biomolecular interactions. Its unique, patented design makes possible high quality, low-cost SPR instrument configurations from bench–top analyzers to portable hand–held test devices. Spreeta’s flexible format creates extensive opportunities in many markets like life science R&D, point of care diagnostics, food safety and bio-defense, environmental testing, and industrial process control.
SPR Technology and Spreeta
SPR is a proven technology used to obtain the most detailed biomolecular binding information available. Until Spreeta, SPR measurements have only been possible by using bulky table–top systems costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Spreeta’s revolutionary approach to SPR incorporates the otherwise costly and technically challenging optical system inside the sensor. It is easily designed into instruments and provides additional flexibility through its on board memory, customized software and fluidics options.

How Spreeta Works
Light from an LED is reflected from a gold surface and the angle and intensity of the SPR minimum is measured. This measurement is used to calculate the effective Refractive Index (RI) at the gold surface. When molecules bind to the gold surface, the measured RI changes. The gold surface can be covered with a bio–film, customized for essentially any molecule for which detection is desired. This bio–film provides the analytical specificity. Spreeta sensors are compatible with all assay formats including direct binding, sandwich, competition, inhibition and displacement assays.

ABOVE – Sensor Initialization Conditions: A plot of light intensity vs. pixel number, for a typical single channel Spreeta (Part Number TSPR2K11) when the sensor is operated with the LED off (green line at bottom), with air on the surface (red line) and with water on the surface (blue line).
BELOW – Processed Sensor Signal: A plot of light intensity vs. pixel number, for a typical single channel Spreeta (Part Number TSPR2K11) following proper initialization. Here, the water resonance takes place at approximately pixel #93. |
